Antique French Gilt In The News
What Does French Style Furniture Say About Your Character?
What do you picture in your mind when you think of French style furniture, particularly French beds? The answer you come up with may well reveal more about you and your personality than it does about the style of French furniture in general, because there is no one single style when it comes to French furniture.
French beds are available in an enormous variety of styles to suit almost any bedroom and almost anyone's personality and character. For some people the idea of French style furniture conjures up an image which can be taken straight from classical Provence, probably with white cotton curtains blowing gently in a warm breeze that is coming straight off the vineyard, and with the room bathed in soft warm light that suggests that every day is summer.
Usually the furniture is white, or slightly off white, and more often than not such images generally revolve around the idea of shabby chic furniture. Shabby chic is a style commonly associated with French style furniture and French beds, and which provides the appearance of age to furniture which is not actually antique.
Certainly this image is truly romantic, and if this is what you had in mind when I mentioned French style furniture at the beginning of this article then possibly you are a romantic person, at least when it comes to bedroom furniture.
However, it is possible that you considered that French style furniture and French beds were more a cream colour than white, and usually inlaid with gilt and gold details. Cream and gold are typical colours used for a style of French furniture which is generally considered to be elegant. Often such French furniture harks back to the Rococo period, or even Louis XIV. So if this was your idea of what French style furniture is all about, then for you the perfect style is one of elegance and sophistication, probably with a lot of extra frilliness and detail thrown in for good measure. This is an ideal style to go for if you have plenty of room to play with, although not usually quite so suited to smaller bedrooms.
There those people who may well have considered that the only style of French beds which can really be considered are four-poster beds. If you are a member of the aristocracy, probably of the French aristocracy, then this isn't surprising, otherwise it is pretty evident that you are seriously into indulgence and making a truly impressive style statement.
But there are also those people who will have considered French furniture to be dark, possibly even black. If you considered black French beds, or beds made from very dark woods, probably within a very dark room, then you are not so much thinking of a French bedroom as a French boudoir, and I need hardly explain how that is likely to tie in with your personality and character!
But the point is that whatever you imagine French style furniture to be, and particularly the style of French beds you imagine, it is important to consider that there is no one single style of French furniture, just as there is no one single type of personality or character, and certainly not one quite like yours!
